Taking the Army and Navy posts together, I can see almost no real objective commitment to sort out anything from the National Political Party Wendy houses (Westminster, Och aye tha' Hooolyroood, Cardiff and Belfast).

So the gap between published budget, the legendary mistakes at Abbey Wood (just outside of Bristol, complete with its very own railway station, of course) and destruction of all three services continues. Nobody seems to be at the helm.

Land ahoy!

I have no knowledge about tactics or arms - but the automotive aspect of the British Army has been curious. I came across the massive contract with MAN where basic trucks with an imposing cab were on a whole life cycle contract - there were few chassis components that were unique, making such a contract questionable.

Then there's the Ajax affair, which is stupid. To have health damaging NVH on any vehicle is an incredible mistake. To then delay the programme for a decade while everyone dances around the proverbial handbags is even worse.

Part of the problem is procurement HQ at Shabby Wood (just outside Bristol) and part is the parade of officers intent on 'doing something' but not being around long enough to see anything through - frequently in a live programme. MoD contract performance has ranged from poor to abysmal.
