I think as many others do that the elected representatives in power, those who would be in power (I'm looking at you Cons, Lib-Dems, SNPeeee and so on) and the majority of the Civil Service Group Think (see Chef d' Mission Chris Stark) are incapable of dealing with anything beyond 10 second sound bites.
The result is knee jerk responses, zero planning, mistakes that quickly compound to disaster.
A prime example is the spineless UK PM, who stands for nothing and believes in nothing but his own career. Hardly a good leader.
From DfT organising the trains to DfE doing edukashun, not forgetting the 'Chains of the Foreign Giveaway Office', one expected Laybour to be 'special'. However to go from 'hero' to 'zero' in a matter of months when even the Cons took years is shocking.
Over to our Glorious PM, Sir Sir K Rodney 'son of a tool' Stomper-Starmer KC MP for yet another Weasley worded 'broadcast'.
You make a good point about reducing the income tax burden on those who are struggling to get by. I suggest a better way than raising the starting tax threshold would be to have a starting tax rate of say 5% on income between £15k and £20k, and further bands of 10 and 20% up to the current "higher"tax threshold.
I say this because I think it is important that the vast majority of working people pay at least some income tax; they are then figuratively invested and are more likely to scrutinise what government is doing with "their" tax money.
Thank you for this article.

The UK government is basically a media management organisation with a health service attached.
I get the same picture.

Congratulations - another succinct piece of work
